In the landscape of retail finance, Divido faced a challenge – a resource-intensive application journey built bespoke for individual lenders. Each journey had its own unique lender requirements and design language, leading to increased costs and extended timelines.

I was brought onboard to transform this landscape by creating a white label retail finance application journey, underpinned by a versatile design system.

Discovery
The initial phase began with a comparison of user flows from existing retail finance application journeys from Divido’s clients and their lending competitors. The primary objective was to unravel the nuances of consumer application journeys, each lender’s varying acceptance criteria and credit decisioning requirements across different banking institutions and countries.

Resulting outputs included a database schema that takes into account the lender requirements such as country localisation, credit decisioning and compliance criteria. It also laid the groundwork for lenders to be more autonomous in building their own finance applications.

Creating a design system
I wanted to offer a consistent design language while allowing flexibility for each lender's unique brand and requirements. Drawing from the existing bespoke designs and the inherent challenges they posed, I developed a white label retail finance application journey.

At its core was a design system – a suite of UI components and form templates, created with accessibility in mind. This system was versatile enough to adapt to different lender branding, from typography to color palettes, while ensuring a consistent user experience. The design system not only streamlined the design process but it also facilitated a smooth design handover to the engineering team.

UI Design
With the foundational elements defined, my focus shifted to the retail application calculator and form design. There was the challenge of creating a modular, white label application that respected both lender-specific decisioning criteria and brand identities.

Additional product features that I developed included KYC and tailored financing, which offered consumers an alternative loan offer should they not fulfill all of the requirements for the loan decisioning.

Usability testing
I initially collaborated with a user researcher to conduct usability testing in order to identify any potential issues and improve user experience throughout the end-to-end journey. This collaborative effort involved developing a discussion guide and user recruitment criteria.

After conducting usability tests, the data was collected and analysed. The report was presented to the broader company, outlining actionable insights for product iteration to cultivate consumer trust and reinforce the user experience.
